Speaker Bio:

Vladimir Popov is the principal researcher at the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute (CEMI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is also a professor emeritus at the New Economic School in Moscow and an adjunct research professor at the Institute of European and Russian Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa. He has published extensively on world economic and development issues, including in the Journal of Comparative Economics, World Development, Comparative Economic Studies, and the New Left Review. His books have been translated into more than 10 languages, including Chinese, English, Farsi, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.

His latest books include Mixed Fortunes: An Economic History of China, Russia, and the West (Oxford University Press, 2014); Macroeconomic Policies in Countries of the Global South (Nova Science Publishing, 2019), which was co-edited with Anis Chowdhury, and When Life Expectancy Is Falling: Mortality Crises in Post-communist Countries in a Global Context (Nova Science Publishing, 2020), among many others.
